Dear Mary,
I have received and read your last letter. Of course, I will be happy to tell you one of the interesting places in Indonesia.
We have Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (The Miniature of Indonesia). It is located in Jakarta. If you visit it, you will see many kinds of traditional houses from all provinces in Indonesia, and from all of the ethnics. They have different shapes and architectures. Some of them are built on pillars, some of them are not. For example, the Rumah Gadang of Minangkabau from West Sumatera is built on pillars. It is important to avoid the wild animals or floods. Whereas Joglo from Java, Honei and Ebei from Irian are not built on pillars.
The similarity of the traditional houses is that they are made of wood, because wood easy to get in the forest many years ago. The modern people don’t live in the traditional houses anymore now. They are not suitable; beside, the teak wood is very expensive. Nowadays, it is difficult for us to get the traditional houses in town or villages.
Besides traditional houses, we can see traditional costumes worn for a wedding ceremony or working on a farm.
I think that’s all about miniature of Indonesia, and I hope you can see it and other interesting places in Indonesia.
Your friend,
Liza
