R.A. Kartini

Every April 21 people in Indonesia commemorate the Kartini day. It is a beautiful day for the woman because we celebrate the birth of great lady R.A. Kartini. Everyone knows who Kartini is. She is our national heroine and a great lady with the bright idea.
Kartini was born in 1879 April 21st in Mayong Jepara. Her father was Rama Sosroningrat, a Wedana (assistant of head of regency) in Mayong. Her mother, Ma Ngasirah was a girl from Teluk Awur village in Jepara. As the daughter of a noble family, she felt luck because she got more than the ordinary people got. She got better education than other children. In november 12rd 1903 she married Adipati Djoyodiningrat, the head of Rembang regency. According to Javanese tradition Kartini had to follow her husband. Then she moved to rembang.
In September 13rd 1904 she gave a birth to her son. His name was Singgih. But after giving birth to a son, her condition was getting worse and she finally passed away on september 17th 1904 on her 25 years old.
Now Kartini has gone but her spirit and dream will always be in our heart. Nowadays Indonesian women progress is influenced by Kartini's spirit stated on collection of letter "Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang" or  from the dusk to the dawn.

What will you feel as a pilot if there is something wrong with your plane at an altitude of thousand metres above the earth? Very tense!
Captain Smokey Stover and 1st Officer Tom Zion were in the cockpit of a 130-passenger Eastern jet on route to New York. It was cruising at 33,000 feet.
Suddenly they both straightened up. There was a rhythmic thumping coming through the floor. It was so definite that they could feel the vibrations with their feet. They checked their instruments, but there was no warning signal there.
They thought one of the landing gear doors hadn't closed, so they slowed down, but there was no reduction in the vibrations. Then they began to worry about their engines. Was one out of synchronization? A check showed that they were in perfect tune. Now the men grew concerned.
They called New York to have a crew of expert mechanics meet the plane. After a safe landing, as the mechanics were swarming aboard, the senior stewardess told Captain Stover, "We really have a weird passenger on this trip. He jogged in the lavatory next to the cockpit for 20 minutes."

Ngunduh Walet, A Unique Tadition From Kebumen

Kebumen, on teh south coast of Central Java, is an agricultural and maritime town. It is close to Cilacap cilacap. Kebumen has a beach called Karangbolong, which is located in eighteen kilometers south of Gombong. Karangbolong has cliff where hundreds of swallows build their nests in small caves. the nest are collected four times a year, in January, April, August, November. The tradition of collecting nest called Ngunduh Walet.

One day, I watched on TV about Ngunduh Walet. One week before Ngunduh walet's day, all of people in Karangbolong village prepared everything for this special ceremony. This is held to avoid the bad attack. First day, they held a traditional dancing callled Ebleg, like Gambus in west Java. I was so scared to look it because they ate everything not only flowers but also a chicken. From that, I knew that they held it to ask permission to everything who preserved Karangbolong village. On second day, women cooked sacrifice and disposed of it to the sea. The day of Ngunduh Walet came. Men climbed down ladders made from bamboo and bark fiber and entered the caves. The situation on the cave was dark and so high. several hours later, the men came out from the cave.

That's why in center of Kebumen's city was built a Lawet monument.
